Post # 5: What to do & where to go in Santiago

When you come to Santiago, one of the places that you can visit is La Moneda, because it’s the place when the most important part of the government works, like the president. Other places could be O’Higgins Park, Padre Hurtado’s Park, neighbourhood Lastarria, National library, Municipal Theatre, National Stadium, Ex Congress, Central Market and all historic patrimonies of the center of the city, because there you can see the old architecture, everywhere you go.
So, there you can eat typical food like empanadas, barbecue, mote with huesillos, or traditional food like ice cream (obviously handmade, because they are so much tasty), or Barros Luco (it’s a sandiwich with hot cheese and beef). Then you can buy handicrafts to give to your family or friends (probably they would be expecting about your trip and they surely wants a present who serves to know about the country that you visited).
So, the top list of the places that you can visit when you come to Santiago are:
- La Moneda, the place where the government works, and receive the most important personalities, like the other presidents of different countries or writers, actors, scientists, painters. I think it’s the most important place that you can visit, because it represents the Chilean State.
- Municipal Theatre, it’s the place where you can listen to beautiful pieces of music and she ballet, with an spectacular cast and musicians, and this architecture shows the European influences, and inside you can see a lot of wonderful details, specially in the armchairs, boxes and the roof. I recommended it because it’s a beautiful place, full of art and mental peace.
- Central Market, it’s the place where you can find traditional Chilean food, overall shellfish and many kinds of fishes. I think this place its very important because you can eat in a very traditional place, and its very good food.
- O Higgins Park, it’s a very extensive park when you have a lot of activities like pedals boat, skating, bicycle, walking, in a lovely place. It’s a family place, you can find all type of people and you can eat an icecream or pop corn, cotton candy or drink a soda.
- At least, but no more important could be National Library, when you can find all kinds of books, magazines, and a really nice architecture. It’s a big collection of literature because their have been collecting above 150 years or more. It’s a beautiful place, so relaxing and you can study and concentrate very well.

Municipal's Theatre is an excelent oportunity to show how culture and "classic arts" are important in Chile. Of course we can't compare this with the European classical music, but we are improving.
I think "Padre Hurtado's Park" is not a safe place to visit, because there is a lot of drugs and alcohol, so maybe is dangerous for foreign people. Anyway, if you go there, enjoy and have a good time!
